A week in Bali

When I was in Australia, we’ve decided to go to Bali with a friend as flights are pretty cheap from there (we paid around 200 Australian Dollars for the flight and the hotel for a week on Lastminute.com). We stayed in the Aqua Bali Villa near Seminyak. The room was clean and the hotel was really beautiful, with a pool and breakfasts included. The money in Bali is the Indonesian Roupie so be prepared to be millionnaire… as 1$ is around 13 000 IDR. 😉

Quand j’étais en Australie, nous avons décidé d’aller à Bali avec une amie car les vols sont pas chers de là-bas (nous avons payé 200 dollars Australiens pour le vol et l’hôtel pour une semaine sur Lastminute.com). Nous sommes restés à Aqua Bali Villa à côté de Seminyak. La chambre était propre et l’hôtel très beau, avec une piscine et le petit-déjeuner inclus. La monnaie à Bali est la roupie Indonésienne donc soyez préparés à être millionnaire… car 1€ représente environ 14 000 IDR. 😉

It was great for a week off and we enjoyed relaxing at the pool and having amazing Balinese massages of 1h30 for only 13 euros ! But if you want to see more of the island, I think it’s better if you book several hotels in several places to avoid loosing time (and money!) for the taxi. In fact, there is a loooot of traffic in Bali (looooots of scooters and some bad roads) so you can spend hours in the taxi to go visit a temple (as some places were quite far away from Seminyak).

But still, we managed to see a lot of beautiful places ! 🙂

C’était super pour une semaine de repos et nous avons apprécié de nous relaxer dans la piscine et d’avoir de supers massages Balinais d’1h30 pour seulement 13 euros ! Mais si vous voulez voir plus de l’île, je pense que c’est mieux de réserver différents hôtels à différents endroits pour éviter de perdre du temps (et de l’argent) dans le taxi. En effet, il y a beaucouuuuup de traffic à Bali (beaucouuuup de scooters et des routes pas très bonnes) donc vous pouvez passez des heures dans le taxi pour aller visiter un temples (comme certains endroits étaient plutôt loins de Seminyak)

Néanmoins, on a réussi à voir pas mal d’endroits très beaux ! 🙂

Tanah Lot

The Tanah Lot is a temple on the sea. We did a small ritual where a monk puts holy water and rice on your forehead and a flower in your hair in order to have the right to go up and admire the (beautiful) view on the sea and the waves breaking on the rocks. The place was beautiful but there were too many tourists, ruining a bit the view.

Le Tanah Lot est un temple sur la mer. Nous avons du faire un petit rituel où un moine nous met de l’eau bénite sur la tete avec un peu de riz sur le front ainsi qu’une fleur dans les cheveux afin de pouvoir monter voir le temple et avoir la vue (magnifique) sur la mer et les vagues qui se cassent sur les rochers. L’endroit était très joli, mais c’était bonde de touristes, ce qui gâchait un peu la vue.

 

 

Pura Petitenget

Pura Petitenget is also a temple (there are loooots of temples in Bali!) in Seminyak, near the beach. To go inside, you have to wear a sarong (a colorful fabric that you tie around the waist). As we weren’t Indonesian (nor believers), we couldn’t actually get into the temple so we admired it from the outside.

Pura Petitenget est également un temple (il y a énormément de temples à Bali!) à Seminyak, près de la plage. Pour y entrer, vous devez revêtir un sarong (un tissu coloré que l’on noue autour de sa taille). Comme nous n’étions pas Indonésiens (ou croyants), nous ne pouvions pas aller dans le temple et nous l’avons donc admiré de l’extérieur.

 

 

The Ubud Monkey Forest

The Ubud Monkey Forest is a natural reserve full of… monkeys (I think you understand where its name comes from 😉 ). This forest located in Ubud has more than 700 monkeys, 186 species of trees and 12,5 hectares of forest ! The vegetation is amazing : you have huge trees but most of all, you have those cute monkeys everywhere ! 😉  The price to enter is 50 000 IDR, being around 3,50€… and it’s worth it ! You can walk into that jungle, admire the vastness of the trees (some are century-old !) and look at all the playful monkeys.

Nevertheless, be careful as the monkeys can be quite aggressive, especially if you have food. So my advice : don’t bring food (even in the bag, they smell it!). I had crisps in my bag and the monkeys came and tried to take my bag (they also try to take my friend’s camera) so be careful with your stuff!

La Forêt des Singes d’Ubud est une réserve naturelle pleine de… singes (je pense que vous voyez d’où vient son nom 😉 ). Cette forêt située à Ubud comprend plus de 700 singes, 186 espèces d’arbres et 12,5 hectares de forêt !  La végétation est impressionnante : vous avez des arbres géants mais surtout, il y a pleins de singes trop mignons partout ! 😉  Le prix pour entrer est de 50 000 IDR, soit environ 3,50€… et ça les vaut ! Vous pouvez marcher dans cette jungle, admirer l’immensité des arbres (certains sont centenaires!) et regarder tous ces singes joueurs.

Néanmoins, faites attention car les singes peuvent être assez agressifs, surtout si vous avez de la nourriture. Mon conseil : ne prenez pas de nourriture avec vous (même dans le sac, ils le sentent!). J’avais des chips dans mon sac et les singes ont essayé de me prendre mon sac (ils ont aussi essayé de prendre l’appareil photo de mon amie), alors soyez attentifs à vos affaires!

Tegalalang Rice Terasse

Bali is full of temples but also of rice fields… So we decided to go to the Tegalalang Rice Terasse, near Ubud. It is an wonderful and very green rice field, and the view when you climb to the top is really breathtaking (yes it’s true, you are also out of breathe due to all that climbing 😉 ) ! It was really a magical moment, very peaceful.

Bali est rempli de temples mais également de rizières… Nous avons donc décidé à la rizière de Tegalalang, près d’Ubud. C’est une magnifique rizière verdoyante, et la vue quand vous grimpez tout en haut vous laisse sans voix (oui c’est vrai, c’est aussi dû au fait que vous êtes à court de souffle après toute cette grimpe 😉 ) ! C’était vraiment un moment magique, très paisible.
